S8 is great and looks very nice, but I love jog-wheels and I don't like Traktor too much. To tell the difference between 16 and 24 bit you would need an incredible sound system playing loud enough to block out any background noise. A confusing array are available. If you start to dig into the details there is one small difference that might affect hard-core turntablists — that Traktor Scratch uses a 2khz carrier signal on its control records Serato uses a 1khz.
In the end it doesn't matter for basic production or mixing in a club both are very much up to the task. And all is a lot! In the end, Serato and Traktor are incredibly similar in function but they look very different, particularly as Serato displays waveforms vertically alongside each other by default. Everyone wants to know the deal about what to get: Traktor Scratch Pro or Serato Scratch Live! I have always favored pioneer kit but i'm truly now starting to question their controllers, I know the sx2 is one down from the top but it should still sound much much better than it does. You just need to put a bit of research into it and tune your laptop for traktor. If you use keylock, master tempo, or whatever it happens to be called on your controller and software, know that this is extremely disruptive to audio quality. Buy which ever one you think has the most value to you ignore all the internet nonsense, everybody is a sound expert all of a sudden. Serato card on all programs and audio 8 on all except serato sl. I'm still using the old 2. I think I want to mess around with it there just to get to know the system better so I could tag team with other djs that are dedicated Serato users.
In regards to the good quality audio interface point, would one need to purchase an additional audio interface such as Echo if using a controller that already has an interface? It is very efficient and does an awesome job with very low latency. We just tried to play the same tunes on the same bose L1 mod2 system with a friend of mine playing with the same conf and we can't notice any sound quality difference between 2. You can play with the threshold settings on both traktor and serato and get the same expressions. I can usually get it figured out within a couple days, but it is still very frustrating, and I have never had any of these issues with Serato. After putting the trials of Final Scratch behind them- Traktor re-engineered their system from the ground up to make it rock solid. However, I have found that it is way less reliable, and much more unstable. Although I have only practiced at home with it I did have a crash which scares me.
